LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech volleyball incoming freshmen Lydia McKay and Meredith Rankin both played last week in the Texas Girls Coaches Association 4A-5A All-Star match held at Arlington Lamar High School.

McKay and Rankin both played for the East squad that was swept in three sets by the West, 25-15, 26-24, 25-13. The All-Star selection marks the second-straight year an incoming Red Raider has played in the match after Breeann David and Amy Rose were both on the West roster in last summer's 1A-2A-3A match.

The pair arrives at Tech following successful prep careers where McKay earned district 19-5A MVP honors last fall when she helped lead Katy High School to the regional quarterfinals, while Rankin was a 2011 TGCA All-State selection out of Kingwood High School.

McKay and Rankin will be part of 11 expected newcomers to the volleyball roster this season. The Red Raiders report for fall camp on Aug. 7 in anticipation for the Aug. 24 season opener at the Boston College Invitational.
