Red Raider Volleyball Holds First Practice of 2014|
Aug. 9, 2014
LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech volleyball team participated in its first practice of the 2014 season on Saturday afternoon, at United Supermarkets Arena.
The Red Raiders reported to campus Friday night, where they had a team meeting and team meal before today’s practice to officially start the season.
“One of the things I love to say is you have to have a little pitter-patter,” head coach Don Flora said. “If you didn’t wake up stoked for today, go play intramurals. You can see it in them. They have that little bit of extra energy and a smile. They were ready to go get it today. That vibe was in the gym, and we’re not having to encourage that—they’re encouraging each other. It’s been exciting to see.”
The Red Raiders return 14 letterwinners from the injury-riddled 2013 season, 12 of those being upperclassmen, creating arguably the most experienced roster Flora has had at Tech.
Texas Tech will start the 2014 campaign in Fullerton, Calif., at the Titan Classic. The Red Raiders will face Sacred Heart on Aug. 29 before playing Bucknell and the host, Cal State Fullerton, on Aug. 30.
