Preseason Volleyball Practice in Full Swing
Aug. 16, 2005
Lubbock, Texas- Texas Tech volleyball has completed its' first week of preseason practices at the United Spirit Arena. Six newcomers will be joining nine returnees for the 2005 season. Head coach Nancy Todd has brought in three freshman and three junior transfers.
"We have a lot of work to do," said head coach Nancy Todd. "We have been doing a lot of drills and working on their individual skills. Now we are taking those drills and skills and using them in game situations. Right now everyone has a chance for a spot but it is coming to the time to start putting people in position to come up with the best mix."
Texas Tech will open the 2005 season at the University of Houston Tournament with matches against Wichita State and Houston. The Red Raiders will then travel to Dallas for the SMU Tournament where they will face Oral Roberts, Stony Brook and SMU.
"I made our non-conference schedule pretty tough. That is good and bad because we play in such a tough conference. When we go to the Houston Tournament, we'll face Wichita State first, who we lost to last year in San Diego, so the team will be fired up to face them again."
After a single road match against Rice, Tech volleyball will return to Lubbock to host the Red Raider Round-Up. Participating in the event will be Georgia, Boise State and San Diego State.
"We come home from the road to play a great tournament with San Diego State, Boise State and Georgia. They are three great teams from great conferences and they have all seen NCAA tournament time."
