LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech steps into their second tournament and second weekend of the short season coming off of a 2-2 showing at the Ready One Sun Bowl Invitational in El Paso. Tech will now face another Texas tournament as they travel to Edinburg, Texas, to face in-state rivals Texas State and UT-Pan American.

The Red Raiders will play each of their matches against the Texas schools on Saturday, September 2. The first challenge will be against the Bobcats of Texas State. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.

The Bobcats come in with an identical record of 2-2. They had victories last weekend against Wyoming and also have previously defeated the UTPA Tournament host.

At 7:00 p.m. the Red Raiders will face host UTPA on their home court, the UTPA Fieldhouse. UTPA comes in with a 1-3 record, in which their only victory was against North Texas.

In Tech's first match of the season, the Red Raiders were defeated 3-1 by Sacramento State. Junior Amy Charlebois led the squad with 15 kills and a team season-high nine blocks.

Later that evening, Tech came out strong against host UTEP as they stole the first two games from the home favorite. UTEP came out fighting for a victory and grabbed games three and four from Tech to prevent the sweep. In the final game, Tech fought back to take the victory with a 15-7 game five.

On Saturday, the Red Raiders, coming off of their first victory of the season, took the first two games from Eastern Michigan. The Eagles fought with much of the same strength that UTEP did the previous day and took the next two games. Determined to not let this one get away, Tech sealed the victory with a 15-9 final set.

After two straight victories, the Red and Black had one more opponent to defeat, New Mexico State. Tech took the first game, to which the Aggies responded and took the second. Following a back and forth battle during the first four games, New Mexico State prevailed and took the match 3-2.
