Volleyball Begins Preparations For Colorado

Series Record: Colorado leads the all-time series 7-1
Last Meeting: The Colorado Buffaloes defeated Texas Tech in five games the last time these two teams met on Nov. 13 in Lubbock. Texas Tech set numerous records in the match but was unable to hang on for the win. Colleen Smith led the team with 34 kills while Skydra Orzen tallied 91 assists and 19 digs. Janelle Jones led the team with eight blocks.

SCOUTING THE BUFFALOES
Texas Tech will wrap up a two-game homestand on Saturday when Tech plays host to the Colorado Buffaloes in a 1 p.m. match at United Spirit Arena. Colorado will enter the match with Texas Tech after falling at home to Baylor on Wednesday night (11-15, 15-17, 7-15).
Colorado enters the match with a 6-7 overall record and a 1-3 record over the last four matches. The last time that Colorado lost a match to Texas Tech was on Oct. 24 when the Red Raiders prevailed in Boulder 7-15, 15-6, 15-10, 15-13.
TECH ROLLS PAST OKLAHOMA, 3-0
The Texas Tech volleyball team improved their season record to 16-1 after dropping the Oklahoma Sooners in three games (15-9, 15-6, 15-7) Wednesday night at United Spirit Arena.
With the win, Tech improves to 5-1 in the Big 12 while Oklahoma falls to 1-5. Tech was able to defeat the Sooners in three games marking the first time this season that Tech has beaten a conference opponent in three games.
Tech jumped out early and took the first game by a score of 15-9. Sophomore outside hitter Melissa McGehee led the way with five kills and four digs. Tech was able to win the second game of the match 15-6 marking the first time the Red Raiders have won game-two of a match since LSU on Sept. 16. At the intermission, Tech was led by Melissa McGehee's nine kills and senior Colleen Smith's 10 digs.
Tech was able to seal the match by taking game-three by a final score of 15-7. On the night, Texas Tech was led by Melissa McGehee who finished with 12 kills and eight digs. Colleen Smith finished the night with 13 digs.
RED RAIDERS RANK IN NATIONAL STATISTICS
Texas Tech's success on the court is also showing up in the NCAA statistical rankings. As of the Oct. 4 rankings, Texas Tech is listed in the top 20 in three categories as a team and has three individuals ranking in three categories.

TECH EARNS NO. 24 NATIONAL RANKING
The Texas Tech volleyball was rewarded this week for their 15-1 record as the squad earned a No. 24 national ranking in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
Tech has not been nationally ranked since Dec. 1, 1998 when the team was No. 22 in the AVCA poll. Nebraska and Texas A&M are the other Big 12 schools ranked this week (Nebraska No.1, Texas A&M No. 23).
HUGHES-JUSTICE IS NUMBER ONE!!!!
Texas Tech junior outside hitter Heather Hughes-Justice is ranked No. 1 in this week's NCAA Division 1 Volleyball Standings for service aces. Hughes-Justice had 48 aces as of Monday (Oct. 2) and increased that number to 49 after posting a season-low one service ace against Oklahoma on Wednesday.
Hughes-Justice set the Texas Tech junior season record against Missouri when she tallied her 44th ace of the season. Christine Martin held the old record of 42 set back in 1995. Hughes-Justice set a single-match season record against Kansas State on Sept. 20 when she scored eight aces.
She is just six aces away from tying the Texas Tech season record of 55 set by Christine Martin back in 1996.
RAIDERS RANK SECOND IN CENTRAL REGION
Regional rankings were announced this past week and Texas Tech learned that they had secured the No. 2 place in the Central Region. Nebraska secured the top spot as the Huskers remain undefeated thus far in the 2000 campaign. Missouri, Texas A&M, Kansas State, Baylor and Kansas join Tech and Nebraska as the other Big 12 teams ranked in the Top 10.
PERFECT IN GAME ONE
Texas Tech has not lost the first game of a match all season long. Tech is a perfect 17-0 in the first game of matches this season. The second game, however, is another story. Tech has lost the second game in four of their last five matches. Tech beat Oklahoma in the second game on Wednesday night marking the first win in game-two for the Red Raiders in Big 12 action this season.
