Volleyball Prepares For Top-Ranked Nebraska

Series Record: Nebraska leads all-time series 12-1
Last Meeting: Nebraska won both meetings during the 1999 season. The last meeting came on Oct. 29 when Texas Tech traveled to Lincoln where the Huskers swept the Red Raiders in three games (6-15, 3-15, 4-15). Lori Garber led the Red Raiders with 10 kills while Skydra Orzen led the way with 14 digs. Lori Garber and Skydra Orzen each had three blocks.

SCOUTING THE CORNHUSKERS
Texas Tech will get its toughest test of the season when the top-ranked and undefeated Nebraska Cornhuskers come to United Spirit Arena on Saturday. Texas Tech will be looking for answers as to why they have lost two straight matches while Nebraska will be looking to go 17-0 on the year and 9-0 in Big 12 play.
Nebraska has been simply dominating this season as the Huskers have won matches over UCLA and Colorado State who are both top ten teams. The Huskers are led by Laura Pilakowski's 102 kills and 48 digs. The defensive leader for the team is Angie Oxley who has 54 digs. The biggest statistic for Nebraska is their 93.5 blocks which gives the Huskers an average of 3.90 blocks per game. Amber Holmquist is the block leader on the team with 34 block assists and six solo blocks.
RAIDERS DROP SECOND STRAIGHT MATCH TO TEXAS A&M
The Texas Tech volleyball team suffered their second straight match loss at the hands of rival Texas A&M. The 22nd ranked Aggies swept Texas Tech in three games to extend their home court winning streak to 27 matches.
With the loss Tech fell to 16-3 on the season and 5-3 in the Big 12 while Texas A&M improved to 11-4 and 6-2 in the league. With the 3-0 win, Texas A&M became the first team to sweep Texas Tech this season.
Tech was unable to overcome 17 Aggie blocks and 16 kills from Erin Gibson.
RED RAIDERS RANK IN NATIONAL STATISTICS
Texas Tech's success on the court is also showing up in the NCAA statistical rankings. As of the Oct. 9 rankings, Texas Tech is listed in the top 20 in two categories as a team and has two individuals ranking in two categories.

TECH RANKED NO. 20 IN VOLLEYBALL MAGAZINE
The Texas Tech volleyball is ranked No.20 in this week's edition of Volleyball Magazine marking the first time this season that Tech has been ranked in that poll.
After falling to Colorado over the weekend, Texas Tech dropped out of the AVCA Top-25. Texas Tech is 26th if the poll is extended.
HUGHES-JUSTICE IS NUMBER ONE!!!!
Texas Tech junior outside hitter Heather Hughes-Justice is ranked No. 1 in this week's NCAA Division 1 Volleyball Standings for service aces. Hughes-Justice had 50 aces as of Monday (Oct. 9) and increased that number to 51 after Wednesday's match with A&M.
Hughes-Justice set the Texas Tech junior season record against Missouri when she tallied her 44th ace of the season. Christine Martin held the old record of 42 set back in 1995. Hughes-Justice set a single-match season record against Kansas State on Sept. 20 when she scored eight aces.
She is just four aces away from tying the Texas Tech season record of 55 set by Christine Martin back in 1996.
RAIDERS TRY TO WORK THROUGH SLUMP
The Texas Tech volleyball team will try to search for answers as to why they have lost two straight matches. Tech will have to do their homework pretty quickly as No.1 ranked Nebraska comes to town on Saturday. In the last three matches, Tech has managed just a .180 hitting percentage while opponents are hitting .200. Defensively, Texas Tech has held their own with 221 digs compared to 210 by opponents. In the last three games, Tech has allowed 36 opponent blocks.
AGGIES BECOME FIRST TO SWEEP TECH
The Texas Tech volleyball team suffered their first three-game sweep of the season at the hands of the Texas A&M Aggies this past Wednesday. A&M won the match 6-15, 12-15, 11-15.
