INSIDE THE OKLAHOMA SERIES
The Red Raiders will be looking to snap a 14-match losing streak to the Sooners on Wednesday night as Texas Tech's last win the series came in a 3-0 sweep on Sept. 21, 2005, in Lubbock. Oklahoma opened the season series several weeks ago with a 3-0 victory over Tech on Oct. 17. Despite the losing streak, the Red Raiders still maintain a 34-27 all-time lead in the series but trail, 14-13, in matches played in Norman. Tech has not gone on the road and defeated the Sooners since taking a 3-0 victory on Nov. 9, 2002.
The Red Raiders continue their week-long road trip on Saturday when Tech travels to face No. 21 Iowa State at 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening in Ames. Tech will play three of its final five matches at home from there, beginning Nov. 7 against TCU. Kansas State (Nov. 17) and Baylor (Nov. 21) will both make trips to Lubbock to close out the home schedule.
PLAYER TO WATCH - Ellen Sorrells
Ellen Sorrells enters this week coming off her best two outings of the season as the freshman has totaled 21 digs over the previous two matches. Sorrells came off the bench on Oct. 20 to set a career high with 10 digs at Kansas State as the Red Raiders nearly upset the 14th-ranked Wildcats. The North Richland Hills, Texas native snapped the mark a week later as she recorded 11 digs last Saturday in Texas Tech's 3-1 victory over West Virginia. Only libero Rachel Brummitt and fellow defensive specialist Tory Vaughan have totaled more digs over the past two matches than Sorrells, who also added three aces against Kansas State, marking the fourth time a Red Raider had done so in a match this season.
TEXAS TECH SWEEPS SEASON SERIES WITH WEST VIRGINIA
Texas Tech completed the season sweep of West Virginia last Saturday with a 3-1 victory at the United Spirit Arena. The Red Raiders, who also topped the Mountaineers in four sets on Oct. 13, had not previously swept the season series with a Big 12 opponent since defeating both Kansas and Texas A&M twice in 2006. The victory also marked the first time Texas Tech had defeated a Big 12 opponent in four or less sets at home since topping Kansas, 3-1, on Sept. 26, 2006.
STACY BECOMES LATEST RED RAIDER TO EARN BIG 12 WEEKLY HONORS
After dropping 19 kills last Saturday against West Virginia, Meghan Stacy became the fourth Red Raider this year to earn a Big 12 weekly award as she was named the conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. The freshman totaled 19 kills for the second-straight match as she originally set her career high on Oct. 20 at No. 14 Kansas State. The Ozark, Mo. native finished with just five attacking errors off 40 swings against the Mountaineers en route to recording a .350 hitting percentage, her highest in Big 12 play this season. She is the third Red Raider to earn Rookie of the Week honors this season, joining Emily Ehrle (Sept. 10) and Emily Ruetter (Sept. 4). The selection marks Tech's fifth weekly award this year, the most in a program history, as Rachel Brummitt also garnered Defensive Player of the Week accolades twice already.
BRUMMITT ENTERS TOP FIVE IN SINGLE-SEASON DIGS
After transferring to Texas Tech last winter, Rachel Brummitt has already made quite the impact for the Red Raiders on the back row. The Plano, Texas native has totaled 38 digs over the past two matches to move into the top five in single-season history as she enters this week with 423 digs on the year. Brummitt currently ranks fifth all-time and trails Lisa Hilgers (1997) by 19 digs for fourth place. The sophomore is currently on pace to snap the school record that was set in 2000 when Melisaa McGehee recorded 448 total digs.
DAVID DELIVERS HER BEST PERFORMANCE IN BIG 12 PLAY
Breeann David joined with Meghan Stacy to give the Red Raiders two solid options on the outside last Saturday against West Virginia as the duo combined for 33 of Texas Tech's 54 total kills. David connected on 14 kills to go along with six blocks and three digs to help lead the Red Raiders to a 3-1 victory. She finished with just two errors off just 32 swings which was good enough for a .375 hitting percentage, her highest career average during Big 12 play. Her 14 kills also fell just one shy of matching her most against a conference opponent as she totaled 15 on Oct. 26 last year against Baylor. The Denver City, Texas native has totaled 26 digs and a .267 hitting percentage over Tech's last two matches as she connected on 12 kills at Kansas State on Oct. 20. David has reached double digits in kills three times during Big 12 play so far this season.
