Texas Tech Volleyball Falls to Kansas 3-0|

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Kansas Jayhawks capitalized on Red Raider mistakes in volleyball action tonight at Coronado High School to defeat the Texas Tech Red Raiders 3-0 before a crowd of 513. The loss drops the Red Raiders to 15-12 (4-10 Big 12) on the year while the Jayhawks improve to 16-9 (7-7).
Tech was led by Ann Romjue and Colleen Smith. Both had nine kills. Mary Beth Albrecht led the Jayhawks with 12 kills and a .346 (12-3-26) hitting percentage.
In the first game the Jayhawks opened up to a 9-1 lead but the Red Raiders mounted a comeback and pulled to within one point late in the game, 14-13. However, Kansas came away with the 15-13 victory. The Jayhawks hit only .184 (13-6-38) compared to Tech's .324 (16-4-37) but capitalized on four Red Raider service errors and four reception errors to pull out the win.
The second game started with Tech out to the lead 8-4 but again the Jayhawks were able to capitalize on three Tech service errors and come back to win 15-10. The Red Raiders hitting percentage dropped to .028 (10-9-36) in the game.
Kansas came out to an early lead in the third game and never lost control. The Jayhawks had their best hitting performance of the night as their percentage rose to .303 (14-4-33). Tech mounted a short rally but Albrecht notched seven kills in the game to keep Kansas cruising.
For the match, Tech had eight reception errors compared to two for Kansas. KU also outhit the Red Raiders .211 (40-17-109) to .196 (38-17-107).
Up next for Tech will be a Big 12 road game against Iowa State on Thursday, November 11.
