LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head volleyball coach Jeff Nelson announced today the signing of Nebraska prep standout Samantha Harvey to a national letter of intent.

Harvey, a three-time All-State selection in both volleyball and basketball at Loop County High School in Taylor, Neb., will join the Red Raiders during the 2001 season. Last season she led her high school team to the state semifinals while picking up first-team all-conference honors, an All-State selection and all-tournament honors at the Nebraska state championships.

Harvey, a 6-3 middle blocker, will most likely be placed on the Fab-50 list at the end of this high school season. Her team is currently in the state tournament in Nebraska where Loop County High School will be competing for the state championship with a record of 22-1.

Harvey is a first-team USAV - Junior Olympic All-America member and plays club ball with South Central.

"Samantha is just a great player," said Texas Tech head coach Jeff Nelson. "We are confident that she will come in and have an immediate impact on our program. She is an outstanding blocker and a very strong hitter and we think with her size and strength she will be able to play immediately."
