SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Texas Tech volleyball program had seven student-athletes named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team Tuesday in an announcement by the conference office.
Amanda Dowdy and Karlyn Meyers led the group as the two seniors were honored for the third-consecutive season. They were joined by juniors Tory Vaughan and Miara Cave, who were both selected for the second time in their career.
"This is a great honor for these seven athletes," Tech head coach Don Flora said. "This is something we want all of our student-athletes to strive for, and we couldn't be prouder of the accomplishments from this group."
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of the team's scheduled contests.
Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The announcement came just hours prior to the Red Raiders' match tonight at San Jose State. First serve is slated for 9 p.m. (CT) at Spartan Gym.
