LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Texas Tech volleyball team closed its season Monday night with its annual awards banquet. At the banquet season ending awards voted on by the coaches and players were announced.

Freshman Ann Romjue won the team's Red Raider Award for outstanding achievement in the classroom and on the court. Romjue was also honored by the coaches as winner of the team's Spirit Award, awarded to the player who most embodies team spirit.

In other awards, Melissa McGehee won the Captains Award, chosen by the team captains. Skydra Orzen won the Coaches Award and Stacey Poole was chosen as the team's Most Improved Player.

Other awards were chosen based on statistical performances. Laurie Garber, the team leader in blocks and kills, won the team's blocking and killing awards. Ann Romjue won the team award for digs and service aces and Skydra Orzen won the award for assists.

Former Texas Tech Assistant Athletic Media Relations Director Greg Hotchkiss and Administrative Secretary Wendy Durret won the Friends of the Program Awards for their outstanding service and dedication to Texas Tech volleyball. --TTU--
