LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior Rachel Brummitt earned yet another postseason honor Tuesday as she was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region teams that were announced by the organization.

Brummitt, the only libero selected on the 11-player Southwest Region team, is the first Red Raider to garner All-Region honors since Melissa McGehee and Colleen Smith were both recognized following the 2000 season.

"I am pleased to see Rachel's hard work and talent was recognized at such an elite level," Tech head coach Don Flora said. "Rachel has earned this honor and represents where this program is headed. She is such a quality teammate and person that this award is so fitting for her at this time in her career."

Brummitt was previously named an All-Big 12 honorable mention selection just a week ago. She will now be eligible to be part of the AVCA All-America squads that will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Plano, Texas native rewrote the Tech record book for the second-straight season in 2013, totaling a program-best 604 digs from the back row. She finished with almost 100 more digs than her previous school record (510) from the 2012 season.

Brummitt ended the year averaging 5.16 digs per set which ranked second in the Big 12 Conference and 25th nationally. The average was nearly a full dig higher than her total from 2012 as well.

She recorded one of the top defensive performances in conference history on Nov. 20 as she totaled a Texas Tech and Big 12 record 36 digs against Oklahoma. The performance broke the long-standing conference record from 2000 for a four-set match and also matched the Tech overall digs record.

In addition to her work on the back row, Brummitt turned into a threat behind the service line as well with a team-high 32 aces, the most for a Red Raider since Emily Ziegler recorded 52 in 2006. Her 0.27 aces per set average ended the regular season ranked seventh in the conference.

Brummitt was one of seven Big 12 players honored in the Southwest Region, joining Texas' Hannah Allison, Haley Eckerman, Molly McCage, Chiaka Ogbogu and Bailey Webster along with Oklahoma's Sallie McLaurin.
