Evette Turner Earns First Place at Red Raider Classic
UT-San Antonio and Lubbock Christian Take Team TitlesMeet Results
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech cross country junior Evette Turner took first place at today's Red Raider Classic held at Mae Simmons Park with a time of 19 minutes, 24.4 seconds. UT-San Antonio claimed the women's 5K team title with 48 points and Lubbock Christian University cruised to a men's 8K team victory with 20 points.
"The true high spot today was the performance by Evette Turner," said Texas Tech head coach Greg Sholars. "This was just her second meet with us, and she continues to improve. We were just excited to get out here and have a bunch of our younger people run and prepare for future meets."
Texas Tech saw a field of young runners compete. Both the men's and women's teams put forth predominately 'B' squads, as the women finished fifth and the men ended in sixth place. Turner led the Red Raider women, while freshman Scott Rackers paced the men. crossing the line for 21st in a field of 61 competitors.
In the men's race, Michael Sang, from South Plains College, claimed the individual title, completing the course in 24:52. Sang was just 1.4 seconds ahead of second place Gabriel Rop from Lubbock Christian. The following four finishers were also from LCU.
The women's race saw individuals from each school competing finish among the top ten. Second and third place were held by Debbie Arzola (19:50.1) and Mindy Brown (20:12.2) from UT-San Antonio, while fourth and fifth were claimed by runners from Wayland Baptist and South Plains College respectively.

Women's Team: UT-San Antonio 48, New Mexico State 58, South Plains 61, New Mexico Highlands 109, Texas Tech 111, Wayland Baptist 137.
