XC Women Compete at Pre-National Meet

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's cross country competed at the NCAA Pre-National Meet in Ames, Iowa, Saturday, finishing 52nd among 56 teams in the event.

Senior Leigh Daniel led the women, posting a time of 22:32.8 for 90th place on the 6K course at Iowa State University. Daniel was followed by redshirt freshman Melissa Ernst, who finished in a time of 24:08.9.

True freshman Tracie Akerhielm followed with a mark of 24:36.6, while sophomore Shannon Spaulding ran in a time of 25:01.8. Freshman Bridget Tidwell also scored for the Red Raiders, finishing in a time of 25:04.5.

The women's squad will take this week, preparing for the Big 12 Championships in Boulder, Colo., October 28.
